6 Ways to Add Years to Your Life
Need some extra motivation to kick your cigarette habit? This should do the trick: New research found that women who stop smoking before 40 live a decade longer than those who keep puffing into later life. Recent findings from a study of over a million women found that smokers more than triple their risk of dying early compared to nonsmokers. Between 1996 and 2001 scientists from the University of Oxford in the U.K. recruited 1.3 million women aged 50–69 and questioned them about their smoking habits, medical history and social status. Twenty percent were smokers, 52 percent had never smoked, and 28 percent were ex-smokers. Women were questioned every few years throughout the twelve-year study, during which 66,000 participants died. Those who smoked throughout the duration of the study were three times as likely to die in the following nine years compared to those who didn't smoke.

The 10 Most Bizarre McFarlane Figures of All Time
Todd McFarlane is kind of weird. Here's a man who spent millions of dollars buying balls whose sole significance lies in the fact that they happened to have been struck by a piece of wood wielded by someone who had struck more balls with a piece of wood and sent them out of the field of play than anyone else (to that point). Does such a person, who takes the road more traveled, make a minor cameo as a bum in a movie based on his own creation (Spawn), make a figure of said bum for the movie's toy line, then make the figure bigger, clean it up and re-release it as "Todd the Artist"? I leave these questions for you to ponder.
5 Guns and Gear to Buy Now Before It’s Too Late
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has introduced the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013, which has one and only one advantage over its predecessor, the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994—an accurate title. I personally don’t believe it will pass, unless there is another mass shooting to match the Newtown, Conn., massacre. If that happens, all bets are off. But suppose it does; what are the guns you should buy—or more accurately, try to buy—given the short supplies caused by panic buying?
8 Retailers That Will Close The Most Stores
It is the time of year when America's largest retailers release those critical holiday season figures and disclose their annual sales. A review of these numbers tells us a great deal about how most of the companies will do in the coming year. And while successful retailers in 2012 may add stores this year, those that have struggled may have to cut locations in 2013 to improve margins or reverse losses.
3 Unbelievable Food Stamp Statistics in America
Food stamps cover steak, lobster, and caviar. Yesterday, I made an image to post on Facebook explaining this, and it went viral. As of right now, almost 2,000 people have shared it, and plenty of people have reacted in anger, explaining that I hate the poor. I’ve deleted several comments telling me to go to Hell, telling me I’m a Nazi, and telling me I hate babies. This is, of course, absurd. But let’s ignore the angry rhetoric and look at what’s actually going on when it comes to food stamps. People are horrified to talk about this, because they’ll instantly be labeled bad words, and theft has become a way of life in a post-bailout America.
10 Ways to Find Money
Employees who'd grown accustomed to bigger paychecks are now feeling the shock of the expiration of the Social Security payroll tax break that ended at the start of the new year. The so-called payroll tax holiday reduced the employee's portion of the Social Security contribution rate from 6.2% to 4.2% of earnings in 2011 and 2012. But the cut, intended to put more money in people's pockets and stimulate spending, was temporary and has now reverted to its former level, resulting in smaller paychecks for workers. Gail Cunningham, a spokeswoman for the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, or NFCC, warned that employees need to act fast to adjust their budgets, especially if they're living paycheck-to-paycheck.
