Top 10 Reasons That It’s Better to Burn Out Than to Fade Away

Great bands break up all the time. In my younger days, I longed for all of the original members of a band to patch things up, play nice, and to tour. Now in my advanced age, I long for the days of the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, where you remember the great music, but not the old members cashing in paychecks so they don’t have to go to work as night managers at their local McDonalds. A complete 180 in thinking, there’s something to be said for not selling your soul to The Man. This list is exclusive to bands with mostly living original members, and not bands like the Platters, who tour with no original members, or glorified solo projects, like Guns N’ Roses, who have one maniac and a constantly rotating supporting cast.

22 Gay Olympians Competing At 2012 London Olympics

Of the nearly 11,000 athletes from around the world who have arrived in London and now eagerly await tonight's reportedly fanfare-filled Olympic opening ceremonies, only 22 are openly gay, according to the most recent OutSports report, as well as Mambaonline. This dismally small number may be surprising considering speculation (though now debunked) that the influx of gay Olympians crashed gay mobile dating app Grindr. Furthermore, while numbers are low across the board, there is a particularly small number of openly gay males, as HuffPost Gay Voices blogger Josh Goodman has pointed out. Nevertheless, the amount of out gay athletes does mark an improvement from past games -- there were only 11 out athletes in Athens and 10 in Beijing, according to OutSports. Futhermore, with some suggesting that gay and lesbian athletes from countries in which being gay is illegal should come out during the games and seek asylum in Britain, it's possible that these numbers may increase in the coming days.

5 Awesome Ways Obamacare Can Help a Hipster Out

You’re young. You have no mortgage. You may or may not live in Brooklyn. And the idea of binding yourself to a 9-to-5 job for the rest of your twenties feels rather stifling to your lofty ambition of becoming the next Mark Zuckerberg or blogger-cum-novelist. I can relate. Or, at least my boyfriend can. He recently quit his full-time job to start a little company of his own. It was a ballsy move but totally worth it, he assured me – until he had to pay his first COBRA bill. I can swear I saw a tear roll down his cheek as he signed the $425 check, which he needs more than ever now that he’s gone rogue.
