Ramen Hacks: 30 Easy Ways to Upgrade Your Instant Noodles

Ramen in the U.S. has come a long way. Once known only in its 10-for-a-dollar instant-lunch form—a staple of offices and dorm rooms all around the '80s and '90s—high-end real ramen shops are springing up left and right on both coasts and everywhere in between. As a half-Japanese kid in the '80s, I grew up eating instant ramen at least once a week, and it still holds a special place in my gut. The real stuff is great, but sometimes only the add-hot-water pack will do. That said, my tastes have changed and expanded considerably over the years, and sometimes that little flavoring packet just isn't enough. As such, I've spent a lot of time devising ways to upgrade my ramen in cheap, easy ways. Ghetto gourmet, if you will. As a card-carrying member of the Ramen Transmogrification Society of Greater New York,* it is my duty, my honor, and my privilege to share with you some of our methods and recipes.

10 Reasons To Fear Mexico's Drug War

It all started in the 80s. Mexican Federal Police Agent Miguel Gallardo a.k.a. "The Godfather" controlled the entire drug trade between the U.S. and Mexico. Gallardo's massive power grew under the protection of the CIA, whose puppet, Miguel Haro, was head of the Mexican Federal Security Directorate. In the late 80s, Gallardo decided to split his control amongst several more manageable groups, now known as the Mexican drug cartels. Perhaps this decision didn't sit well with the brass, as Gallardo was arrested soon after dividing his empire and is doing 40 years in prison. With no central control, the cartels have been at war ever since. And now the war is coming to America.

10 Films That Seemed Better When I Was A Kid

Flying bikes! Killer bees! Through the haze of youth, some films shocked and thrilled. As an adult, though, they now look rather less impressive. Some movies are so perfectly crafted that, despite the passing of time rendering fashions and technologies obsolete, their stories remain as relevant and captivating as they were when they first appeared. There’s another category of movie, meanwhile, on which time has an entirely different effect. Where Citizen Kane or Alien have aged like fine wine or matured like posh cheese, others no longer look quite as convincing as they did on their initial release.

10 Greatest Rags to Riches Stories

Last year American voice-over artist Ted Williams became a national sensation when he was discovered in a state of bewildered homelessness. Williams is the typical client Ron Barba, a Craigslist talent agent in the hilariously funny new Internet television Show, King of List, would love to represent, if he wasn’t so busy pulling nascent talent from off of Craigslist. Williams’ very human story of struggle and redemption is still playing out, although in a lower key. Since his brief stint with national fame, Ted Williams has privately suffered a relapse and a recovery and is now working on a new project with NECN as their official “Voice”. While we wait to see if Ted will rise to riches we can look back on a number of other very determined people who were spurred to success by their humble beginnings.

15 Actors Who Tried To Sing… Poorly

Every rock star thinks he can act and every actor thinks he should be a rock star. It makes a certain kind of sense – both require creativity and a hint of talent, or at least the ability to bullshit people into believing that you are creative or have a hint of talent, which is kind of a talent in itself. Occasionally – very occasionally – this fusion results in something good, or, at the very least, interesting. Most of the time, though, whenever an actor gets it in his head that he should be a rock star, the results are absolutely terrible. If you make it to the end of this list without slitting your wrists or stabbing your eardrum with an icepick, well, just imagine what it was like to write this. I listened to some of these songs multiple times. After all, I’m a professional. Anyway, without further ado, here are 15 actors who tried to sing. May God or Buddha or Patrick Swayze or whoever have mercy on them.
